"What if It Were You?"

by Juliana (daughter of Seesnow)

May 19,  2004

If I were Harriet Tubman...I would feel rather afraid. If my father or one of my relatives taught me how to escape, I would feel alone unless someone went with me. I would feel scared of the dark especially at night. If I were at a safe-house, I wouldn't know if some people could be trusted. Still I would do it to be free. If I were in somebody's house in a secret room,it would feel strange especially since I never had been there before. The next day when I would be leaving, I would say, "Thank you". I would leave when the sun would be rising. Still, I would not be happy until my family was also free. Once my family would be free, then I would be happy with freedom.

Schnee Way thanks Juliana for sharing her school project story.  She is in 2nd grade and won "Writer of the Week" for this article.
